About Lindsey Foss
I believe that therapy can help you to become your best self. I take a holistic approach to therapy, believing that mind, body, spirit, and relationships equally impact our lives. Whatever your goal is–from changing your way of interacting with family to overcoming pain from recent events or events long ago, I will use personalized and collaborative process to help you heal and propel your life and relationships to a better place.
I particularly enjoy working with couples preparing for, or in the early stages of, marriage or long term commitment. In individual therapy, I focus on helping individuals draw on their strengths and resources while examining patterns, both individually and interpersonally, that may cause them to feel stuck.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I was an educator and educational administrator. I am experienced in helping families navigate adolescence in addition to other challenges such as depression and anxiety. I believe in empowering families to find the right solutions for them–not only within their family but with other resources like schools.
Originally from North Carolina, I speak Spanish and German and have lived in D.C. for eight years. One of my favorite things to do is explore the city by bike.
I am a proud Richmond Spider and have a B.A. in Global Politics and Diplomacy from the University of Richmond. I earned my M.S. in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Maryland, College Park.
I am certified in the PREPARE/ENRICH premarital counseling program. I am trained to provide Discernment Counseling to couples on the brink of separation or divorce. I am also trained in teaching Yoga and Mindfulness to children and adolescents by Little Flower Yoga.
Endorsement by Practice Owner, Dr. Emily Cook
Lindsey joins my practice as a trusted colleague and friend. Her therapeutic style is a unique blend of the qualities that make an effective therapist: she is direct at the same time that she is responsive, she is warm at the same time she is honest, and she is fun to be around at the same time she is focused on positive results. Her approach to therapy makes it easy to discuss difficult topics and her expertise in relationship health makes it easy to learn new skills. She understands the unique needs of couples and individuals in therapy, and her thoughtfulness towards the people she works with shows in often longstanding relationships with clients. I’m honored to have her on my team of therapists!
