About Michelle Collins
You did it! You’ve made the first step. You have started your journey towards healing and repair through therapy. Many people struggle adjusting to life’s demands, stresses, and transitions. However with the help of counseling, families, couples, and individuals feel anchored and empowered to make improvements. I am here to accompany you on this path. I find that therapy is an useful tool in learning new things about yourself, rekindling motivation, and rebuilding love.
My expertise includes working with adolescents, parents of adolescents, grief and loss, newlywed couples, premarital counseling, and couple intimacy issues. I use a variety of models when working with families, couples, and individuals including cognitive-behavioral therapy, Gottman method, and dialectical behavioral therapy. In my work with clients, I highlight unhelpful patterns that are saturating their day-to-day living and explore new ways to live and enjoy life. In therapy, I believe the goal is to find ways to not only survive in life, but to thrive.
My approach is warm, authentic, and non-judgmental. Many clients enjoy my humor and friendly personality. I am originally from North Carolina and have a huge, blended family. I have lived in the DC metropolitan area for about two and half years. I am fluent in Spanish.
What Clients Say About Working with Michelle Collins
“We did our pre-marriage counseling with Michelle at Emily Cook Therapy. She was so wonderful. We both loved her. Since we hadn’t done counseling before, both of us were a little nervous about it before we started. Michelle put us at ease from the start and we both gained so much from our sessions– she gave us so many tools for success. We even enjoyed the process a lot, which neither of us expected. Plus, the office is in a great location, so, after the sessions, we usually had a mini date and hit up a restaurant or went window shopping in the cute downtown Bethesda area. Very happy with our experience here!” posted to Emily Cook Therapy on Yelp
